On 27 September, more than 180 South Australians aged 50+ came together for COTA SA’s Reimagine Ageing event to celebrate the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. It was an opportunity to celebrate the important and valuable contributions that older people make in our community, as well as highlighting the importance of challenging the prejudices and stereotypes that underpin ageism.

We know that there are many older people who use a personal alert device so that loved ones and carers can be alerted in an emergency. Some of these devices rely on the 3G network for connectivity. The 3G network is in the process of being phased out in favour of the 4G network, and this will take place by 30 June 2024. This means, if you or a loved one is using a 3G personal alert device, you will need to review your options and make a decision about changing your device.

Fleurieu Neighbourhood Network | |
Pt Elliot show
On 7 and 8 October the Fleurieu Neighbourhood Network (FNN) attended the Pt Elliot show and shared our site with U3A South Coast, a likeminded organisation who is also a COTA SA member. | | | |
The weather was glorious and both days were very busy and successful, with around 10,000 people through the gates. Visitors to the marquee enquired about the Fleurieu Neighbourhood Network with discussions around our aim and future plan for the local area.
Lots of conversation was had across both days and many promotional items were taken. With thanks to Jodie Ward and Andy Cawley who attended the stall on Saturday and Angela and Derek Bowman who were there to greet visitors on Sunday.

Could you be a COTA Visitor? We're looking for more volunteers to be part of our COTA Visitors program. We have a need for volunteers across the Southern suburbs, in particular Hallett Cove, Bellevue Heights, Morphett Vale, South Brighton and Somerton Park.
If you have a spare hour a week or fortnight to catch up for a coffee and a chat with an older person who may be lonely or isolated, we want to hear from you! Share stories, talk about world events, or play a game together. What you do is up to you both. You will be matched with someone who lives local to you and has similar interests.
