COTA SA welcomes pension increase
Cost of living pressures are very real and very difficult for older people on low and fixed incomes whose only option to balance a budget is to cut spending — and often on critical things like energy, food, healthcare and staying in touch with friends and family. It is therefore welcome news that pensions will increase by 3.7% in March. Read the full article here

Create meaningful connections with an older South Australian
Volunteers of the COTA Visitors program are developing friendships with older people and are promoting the rewarding role to others. Volunteer Peter Rodgers visits Jack weekly, an older person at risk of loneliness but now loves their mutually strong friendship.
“It all started when I was out to lunch with a friend — he suggested that I volunteer my time to visit others who may be feeling lonely or isolated. I have the time, so I thought, why not?!,” Peter said. Read the full article here.

Climate change a top priority for COTA SA COTA SA takes the threat of climate change seriously and our passionate Climate Change Group is focussed on actions that can be taken at policy, organisational and personal level that tackle this critical issue. One of the challenges responding to climate change is finding what an individual or family can practically do about it. We know about the benefits of installing solar, using water more carefully, and recycling, for example, but our Climate Change Group believe that we can also use our financial power to make a difference. We have bank accounts with banks and credit unions, we buy goods from shops — large and small, and many of us have superannuation or investments. We can control with which firms we save, spend and invest. Our Climate Change Group recently hosted a webinar with Paul Garner from Novo Wealth to talk about how we can use our financial power to make a difference to our environment.
Watch the recording of the webinar here. Interested in learning more about how COTA SA considers climate change in its policy work? Read our State Budget 2023/24 Submission here.
