AGM and Annual Snapshot 2023

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual General Meeting (AGM) where we also released our 2023 Annual Snapshot. If you couldn’t make it, you can catch up on our activities and achievements here: COTA SA Annual Snapshot 2023

The AGM included our special guest speaker, the Hon Nat Cook MP, Minister for Human Services. Nat acknowledged COTA SA's contribution to giving older people "a voice that is strong and holds us to account" and that this voice enables the government to create and build new ideas.

10 ways to make the most of what you have

Cost of living pressures are very real and very difficult for many of us at the moment...

...and we often hear that the only way to balance a budget is to cut spending - and often on critical things like food, healthcare, heating and cooling and staying in touch with family and friends.

In recent weeks, COTA SA partnered with the City of Salisbury to host another of our Conversations with Salisbury Seniors. The topic for our event was “Thrifty Living” and more than fifty older people came together to talk about how the increases in cost of living were impacting them and share with one another their ideas, tricks and hot tips for making the most of what they had. Click below for more, including the top 10 tips and links to available concessions and support options.

Feast Festival 2023

Our Rainbow Horizons Compassion Cafe provided a unique chance for LGBTI+ community members to reflect on existing supports and ways to maximise preferred choice, capacity and control around end of life.

In Loving Remembrance: an LGBTI+ Memorial event created a wonderful space for healing, support and celebration to remember and honour people we have lost as well as years lost in the closet. Kindly supported by the Suzanne Elliott Charitable Trust. Pictured right by Jo-Anna Robertson.

The Feast edition of our monthly lunch enabled some new faces to connect with old friends.

We were proud to once again sponsor the South Australian Rainbow Advocacy Alliance annual Ian Purcell Oration to honour the life of a beloved LGBTI+ advocate and driving force behind the establishment of the Rainbow Hub. The evening of storytelling and celebration with Will Sergeant, OA, was a sellout hit.

Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make these events a success.

Climate Change Group: Is your next car an Electric Vehicle?

Our Climate Change Group is passionate about the actions that individuals can take, big or small, that helps to care for the planet. One of these actions is sharing stories and finding reliable sources of information that are balanced and easy to understand. In today's story, the group is sharing information on electric vehicles.

We now see many electric vehicles on our roads whereas even a year ago they were uncommon. Most of the major manufacturers have launched, or about to launch, their electric vehicles. And some have announced an end date to the manufacture of petrol-powered cars. So our next car could well be an electric vehicle.

Scams week 2023

It's Scams Awareness Week 2023 and this year's focus is on impersonation scams - people aren't always who they say they are. Did you know that 3 in every 4 scam reports received by Scamwatch involve impersonation — criminals pretending to be people we should be able to trust?

Always ask yourself: Who's really there?

Visit the Scamwatch website for more information on Scams Week 2023.
